About
Dr. Shakir is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and assistant clinical professor at Wayne State University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. Dr. Shakir earned her MBBS from The Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Wayne State University, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral neurosciences. Her clinical and research interest is in trauma across the lifespan. She has been awarded diplomate status with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. In addition to working with children, adolescents, and adults with history of traumatic stress (e.g., childhood trauma, human trafficking, domestic violence, compassion fatigue), Dr. Shakir is committed to promoting women’s health across lifespan including but not limited to prenatal and post-partum management of mental illness.
Dr. Shakir collaborates with the Think Lab to investigate the role of cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system in different body functions and as potential biomarkers and therapeutic agents.
